A couple more Butler County School Districts have given final approval to budgets for next school year that include tax increases.
At a meeting of the Slippery Rock Area School Board, members finalized a balanced budget of just over $38 million by a vote of 8-0 with one absence. In order for expected revenue to meet expenditures, Slippery Rock residents will see a tax increase of 3.75 mils. The new total tax milage rate is 108.5. The additional money is needed to cover increased health care and special education costs.
The Moniteau School Board also approved their budget for 2024-25 this week with a 4 mil tax increase by a vote of 7-2. The new milage rate is 101.38 and the increase represents the average property owner in the district paying about $62 more per year. Moniteau administrators still expect a deficit of about $1.7 million next year as a result of a variety of factors including COVID relief funds ending, health insurance increases, and transportation costs.
