Another focus of this week’s “Healthy and Safe Swimming” imitative is to help prevent the spread of germs in pools this summer.
Officials say recreational water illnesses, or RWIs, are caused by germs spread by swallowing, breathing in mists or having contact with contaminated water in pools, hot tubs, water parks, play areas or outdoor bodies of water.
To prevent the spread of germs, Aquatics Director at the Butler YMCA Ryan Good says you should shower both before and after you get in a pool.
Parents are also encouraged to take kids on bathroom breaks every hour even if they say they don’t have to go.
