The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 5-3 Sunday in New York. Connor Sheary was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton prior to the game and scored twice. Matt Cullen and Patrick Hornqvist scored. Sidney Crosby added an empty net goal.
The victory moved the Pens to within two points of the New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division with 14 games remaining in the regular season. The Pens host the Islanders Tuesday. The Pens play four of their next five games at the Consol Energy Center.
The Pens learned over the weekend that center Evgeni Malkin will miss the next six to eight weeks due to an upper body injury.
