The Butler Area Sewer Authority will be raising their rates beginning next month.
Executive Director of the Butler Area Sewer Authority, Thomas Rockovich told our newsroom “Three dollars per month, per EDU, for all intents and purposes, it’s a three dollar per month increase per unit.”
The three dollar increase will take the monthly bill for each unit from $33 to $36. That amount is still in the bottom half of a recent survey of sewage rates in surrounding municipalities.
Rockovich says that the additional revenue, totaling around $780,000 per year will be used to fund debt service and badly needed capital improvement projects.
“A large amount of equipment was originally installed in 1980. They have reached far beyond their useful life. We are having a difficult time finding parts. We’ve reached the point where we have to go in a different direction and upgrade the technology and upgrade the facilities that we are currently using,” Rockovich explained.
Butler Area Sewer Authority last raised their rates last year by one dollar in anticipation of beginning the improvement projects.
