An East Butler mother was arrested for allegedly assaulting her baby so badly that it nearly died.
Police arrested 27-year-old Remedios Nopaltecatl-Ramirez on Wednesday. She was denied bail and placed in the Butler County Prison.
An arrest warrant was issued for the woman last week. She has been charged with felony aggravated assault.
State Police allege she injured her baby in August. According to court documents, she told police her baby had fallen off of a bed, but medical personnel told officers this explanation doesn’t account for the extreme damage done to the baby’s head.
Officials believe the infant was the victim of abusive head trauma or Shaken Baby Syndrome, which likely caused permanent impairment.
