A group of local high school students are being honored for using problem-solving, creative, and strategic-thinking abilities to solve a real-world problem.
A team of students from the Seneca Valley School District have been selected as the District 10 winner of the third annual PennDOT Innovations Challenge.
PennDOT and the PA Department of Environmental Protection asked kids in grades 9 through 12 last fall to come up with cost-effective technologies and innovative methods that can be developed in the next 5 to 10 years to control litter along roadways. Seneca Valley students came up with “Litter Gitters” which are specialized trash cans installed at strategic locations.
This Seneca Valley team will now go to Harrisburg and compete for the state championship and $3,000 divided between the top three teams.
