Pennsylvania is one of 20 states that remain at the $7.25 per hour minimum wage.
In recent weeks, Gov. Tom Wolf introduced $15 per hour minimum wage legislation, and now, a top Republican in the state Senate says he is open to discussions.
Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman was asked by the Pennsylvania Press Club if he supports an increase.
“I think the minimum wage discussion needs to happen, but it has to be a reasonable discussion,” Corman said. “But, $15 per hour is not reasonable. It’s just not.”
Despite Corman’s comments, the legislation faces long odds in the state’s Republican-controlled Legislature.
The plan endorsed by Gov. Wolf would raise the minimum wage to $12 an hour effective July 1. It would then increase 50 cents a year until it reaches $15 by 2025.
