While snow and ice may be far off the minds of drivers in Pennsylvania, the state senate in Harrisburg has passed a law that aims to keep drivers safe in the winter.
Senator Lisa Boscola of Leigh County sponsored the bill that would require drivers to remove ice and snow from their vehicles before driving.
It’s a law nearly 20 years in the works, following the tragic death of Christine Lambert on a highway in Carbon County.
“An eight inch chunk of ice became dislodged from the tractor trailer, traveling toward her vehicle, smashed through the window and struck and killed her instantly,” Boscola says of the 2005 incident. “The truck driver never stopped and likely never even knew what happened.”
Boscola hopes Governor Wolf will sign the bill into law.
