Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey is calling for increased sanctions on Russia.
Toomey says banning Russian oil is just a start, but wants secondary sanctions on Russian banks in order to “bring their economy to its knees.”
“We also need the rest of the world to stop funding Putin’s war machine,” Toomey said at a Senate hearing Tuesday. “That probably is going to require secondary sanctions on Russian banks. Secondary sanctions would force the world to choose between doing business with Russia or with the United States.”
Toomey also believes it’s important for European countries to follow suit with sanctions.
“If you’re a bank anywhere in the world you can do business with Russia if you want, but you can’t do business with the United States,” Toomey said.
