A local lawmaker is urging Pennsylvania’s governor to take advantage of federal funding available to develop cleaner coal technologies.
State Senator Joe Pittman recently wrote a letter to Governor Tom Wolf about the $64 million committed by the U.S. Department of Energy to Carbon Capture technology with reduced emissions.
Pittman explained how Pennsylvania is uniquely positioned to capitalize on this opportunity.
“We are rich in coal resources and natural gas resources. We’re an energy hub,” Pittman said. “In my opinion, we need to take advantage of that.”
Pittman went on to say that he understands Wolf’s concern with carbon emissions but believes this funding is a way to make a difference in the long-term.
