A local state senator is proposing new legislation that he says would make Pennsylvania energy independent.
Republican Senator Scott Hutchinson partnered with Senator Doug Mastriano and plans to introduce the PA Energy Independence Act.
The bill aims to spur natural gas production by offering tax incentives and opening new state lands for drilling.
It also would establish a provision that any environmental regulation of coal and gas would come from Pennsylvania and not the federal government.
Hutchinson said that the attack on the Ukraine reinforces his idea that the United States and Pennsylvania should increase energy production to rely less on foreign sources.
