A local lawmaker is advancing legislation that would increase the number of health care providers in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Senate Bill 927, introduced by Republican State Senator Scott Hutchinson has been approved by the Senate.
This bill improves the Medical Officer or Health Officer Incentive Program which was created by Hutchinson in 2014 to provide an education stipend for qualifiers based on time in the armed services.
The new bill would broaden the definition of “health professional” to allow for participation of those previously left out. It would also create education stipend tiers based on education level.
This bill will next move on to the State House of Representatives for consideration.
