A Pennsylvania lawmaker is working to protect especially older Americans from the annoyance and danger of illegal robocalls.
U.S. Senator Bob Casey held a hearing to help promote the passage of his bipartisan bill called the Stop Senior Scams Act which would enlist bank tellers and cashiers in an effort to spot and stop scams.
The Senate Special Committee on Aging held the hearing to combat the fraud perpetrated by those using the telecommunications technology to trick seniors into giving money to scammers. The financial impact of these scams is estimated to be at least $3 billion per year.
