Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey is introducing legislation that aims to help grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
Casey says the bill would give grandparents more access to Social Security and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. He says this funding is necessary to help.
“Approximately one in five grandfamilies live at or below the federal poverty line. And nearly half, of all grandmother-only households are living in poverty. That is unacceptable and should be unacceptable to any member of the United States Congress,” Casey said.
Casey also supports an extension of the national advisory council to support grandfamilies, which started in 2018.
