A second homeless shelter recently proposed for Butler has been put on hold.
According to Butler County Human Services Director Joyce Ainsworth and volunteer organizer Dana Perkins, plans for another winter shelter are no longer being actively developed.
In a statement released by Ainsworth and stated during a meeting for volunteers last week organized by Perkins, it was determined that Grace Youth and Family Foundation, which runs the Winter Relief Center, will likely be able to handle the local need for this service.
A contract dispute with the foundation had led Butler County to withhold funding they had provided in the past. After originally saying that funding issues would cause them to limit who they could help at their shelter, GYFF received donations that allowed them to remove those restrictions.
The approximately $35,000 that the county had originally budgeted for the Winter Relief Center will likely be re-purposed elsewhere for programs that aid the homeless community in Butler.
