The Seattle Mariners defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 last night. Jon Niese allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 4-2/3rds innings for the Bucs. Niese allowed three runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run home run by Seattle designated hitter Nelson Cruz. His record fell to 6-6 and he now has a 5.07 ERA. The Pirates and Mariners play again tonight at 10:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 9:45pm. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates, who have tomorrow off before heading to Oakland.
Two Pirates prospects have been selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game in San Diego next month. Outfielder Austin Meadows will play for the United States team. Right-handed pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas will play for the World Team. Both were recently promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates.
