Slippery Rock University has narrowed the list of candidates in line to be the school’s next president.
After weeks of reviewing applications, the SRU Search Committee has cut the list of potential leaders from 75 candidates to nine.
“The pool of candidates was extremely impressive both in terms of their credentials as well as their diversity,” Jeff Smith, SRU trustee and chair of the search committee, said in a statement. “I was surprised at how quickly the search committee coalesced around the final group of candidates. I am really excited about the next phase of the search where we have a chance to meet the candidates in person and learn more about them.”
Additional in-person and off-site interviews will now take place in order to further pare the list down to four or five candidates who will be invited to visit the campus. In late September, students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni will have the chance to meet the candidates that are still in the running and give feedback.
The search committee will then recommend two candidates to the council of trustees in October, who will then vote to approve those candidates. The recommendations will then be sent to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors who will interview them and make the final choice.
Former SRU President Cheryl Norton retired in July.
