A school district just south of Butler County will no longer allow students to use restrooms based on their expressed gender identity.
The Pine-Richland School Board in Gibsonia had been allowing that, but voted 5-4 Monday night to formally adopt a policy requiring students to use the restroom corresponding to their biological sex. Students may also use a unisex restroom.
The board has been discussing the policy since March.
The U.S. Department of Education has warned school districts that they could lose federal funding if they do not follow a policy allowing transgender students to use facilities that correspond to their identity.
