The Butler School Board is revisiting an idea to allow a large bubble dome to be installed on district property for additional indoor athletic space.
Butler Athletic Director Bill Mylan told the school board during a meeting Monday night that Butler graduate and former professional athlete Matt Clement and his business partner are still interested in putting the bubble dome structure near the senior high tennis courts. Discussions were last had about this proposal last year.
According to Mylan, gym space is a major need for the district, especially in the winter, and puts Butler at a competitive disadvantage compared to other schools in the area.
There are still many details to be worked out regarding the proposal. The board’s Athletic Committee is planning to meet with Clement’s group in the near future for further discussion before bringing a more concrete plan back to the entire board.
