Saxonburg will not be changing a zoning designation to accommodate a property owner looking to sell.
At a meeting Wednesday night, a motion to change zoning for a six acre piece of land near Carol Drive from Residential to Commercial failed due to the lack of a second for the proposal.
During a public hearing before the meeting, Saxonburg Borough Council heard from a realtor representing Ron Jack who owns the land. This change would have likely allowed Jack to sell for more money but it would also have opened the property for a variety of uses that are not single family homes.
About 15 of the 45 people in attendance spoke in opposition to the proposal. One resident submitted a petition containing over 160 signatures and another pointed out that Jack had failed in a petition for this change in the past.
