A church’s professional fireworks display in Saxonburg over the holiday weekend was such a huge success that they are planning on holding it again next year.
New Life Christian Ministries on Knoch Road in Saxonburg held their first ever fireworks display on Saturday, July 3, 2016. According to Senior Pastor Chris Marshall, even though this was in conjunction with the church’s 15th anniversary, it was a way to provide a blessing to the community.
Church staff and volunteers handed out free pop corn, glow sticks, and mini-water bottles to those who were on the church campus for the display. There was also a DJ playing music before and after the fireworks went off.
Pastor Marshall spoke to our news room and said he estimates that at least 1,000 people were on campus but he also understands that people parked at nearby businesses, along Knoch road, at Knoch High’s Stadium and at Knoch Primary School’s parking lot. Many residential neighbors had gatherings that sat on their lawns. So, the numbers, according to Marshall, are likely much higher than he thinks.
The company who set off the display was Glory on High Fireworks in Templeton, PA. The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department was on hand in case they were needed.
New Life Christian Ministries, who just recently finished their new worship space on Knock Road in Saxonburg, will again figure out in 2017 the exact spot on their campus for the fireworks. Next year, they hope to have their Children’s Nurture and Discipleship Center built, which will likely take away some of the area where the display was set off this year.
At the end of the event, everyone seemed to be patient with each other as they were leaving the crowded parking lot. Those who walked or drove left with multiple church members, dressed in matching red shirts, making sure those who came were appreciated by waving and yelling, “Thank you for coming!”
