The annual Saxonburg Carnival kicked off on Tuesday with a fan favorite, the annual Pet Parade.
Animals of all shapes and sizes walked down the borough’s Main Street. There were ducks, bunnies, horses…and of course the traditional dogs and cats.
The Saxonburg Carnival will run through Saturday, and is the big yearly fundraiser for the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
“We don’t have a fire tax that goes to the fire company, so anytime we want to buy something, we have to raise the funds for it ourselves,” longtime firefighter Dave Felsing said.
Felsing says the Saxonburg Fireman’s Carnival has been going on every year since the early 1930s, and helps the Saxonburg Fire Department continue running.
The big Fireman’s Parade will be on Thursday.
