The Saxonburg Borough Council will vote on a plan to give an earned income tax credit to volunteer firefighters to encourage participation.
According to council member Dave Felsing, an ordinance to help out volunteers who live and work in the borough is on the agenda for Wednesday night’s meeting.
The plan has been in the works for a couple of months and recently received legal approval. Once voted on, the plan could be given final approval at the August meeting.
Criteria used to determine how a firefighter is considered active will be determined by the fire company.
This tax credit would not apply to firefighters living in neighboring municipalities; however, more and more local governments- including Butler Township- have decided to use this savings as a recruitment tool.
