Within a matter of months, the City of Butler will have a full-service grocery store.
Save-A-Lot is coming to Pullman Square.
Preliminary work has been underway for several weeks to convert about half of the former Shop ‘n Save store into Save-A-Lot.
“We’re splitting the old Shop ‘n Save space, which was a 60,000-square-foot store,” Zach Gumberg, principal and managing member of plaza-owner LG Realty Services, said in an interview. ” The new Save-A-Lot store is going to be about 19,000-square feet.”
Save-A-Lot is billed as a discount grocery store. There are several locations in other counties, including Beaver and Lawrence.
“The store will offer fresh-cut meat, fresh fruits and vegetables,” Gumberg said. The grocer will offer their own exclusive brands as well as national brands.
“That differentiates them from other discount grocery stores that are in the area,” he said.
The city of Butler has been without a grocery store for about a year after Friedman’s on West Brady Street closed last October.
Save-A-Lot is expected to open during the first quarter of next year, if not sooner.
“It’s so essential to have a full-service grocery store within walking distance of a large population of the city of Butler,” Gumberg said.
