The Pittsburgh Pirates are now 3 ½ games behind NL Central Leaders Chicago Cubs after the Pirates lost yesterday afternoon 4-3 against the Cubs. Chris Archer, for the Pirates pitched well only allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, while he struck out 10 batters in his 6 plus innings of work. Through the first 6 innings Archer, had only allowed 1 hit to the Cubs. The second game of the 3 games series in Chicago versus the Cubs is today with the first pitch at 2:20 pm. 680 a.m. WISR will have all the action starting at 1:55 pm with the pre-game show. Today’s starters are Jordan Lyles (5-5, 4.36 ERA) for the Pirates and John Lester (8-6, 3.72 ERA) for the Cubs.
In the honor of their teammate’s death, the Los Angeles Angels in their first game back from the All-Star Break pitched a combined no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners last night and won 13-0. Taylor Cole and Felix Pena pitched the no-hitter for the Angels, Cole pitching 2 innings and Pena pitched 7 innings. The Angles last night honored Tyler Skaggs, a pitcher on their team which died of unknown causes on July 1, 2019, while the team was on a road trip in Texas.
NASCAR is at the Kentucky Speedway this weekend. The Cup Series race is tonight and Martin Truex, Jr. is the defending race winner.
In tennis, the Women’s Wimbledon Finals are this morning, Serena Williams takes on Simone Halep. If Williams can defeat Halep, it will be her 24th Grand Slam Title in Tennis, which would be tied for the most Grand Slam Titles ever by a female. The Men’s Wimbledon Finals will take place tomorrow morning and it will feature number 1 overall seed, Novak Djokovic against number 2 overall seed Roger Federer.
