The Pittsburgh Pirates won in dramatic fashion last night in Cincinnati to improve their record to 4-0 on the young season. A Starling Marte grand slam in the top of 8th inning off of Red’s reliever J.J. Hoover gave the Pirates a 6-5 lead that they never relinquished. The grand slam was Marte’s first of his career. Ryan Vogelsong picked up the win for the Pirates, J.J. Hoover took the loss of the Red’s and Mark Melancon picked up his second save of the season for the bucco’s. These two teams square off in the second of three games this weekend today, you can hear all the action on WISR 680 AM starting with the pre-game at 12:45 P.M. while first pitch is set for 1:10 P.M.
The Penguins wrap up the regular season today in Philadelphia as they take on the Flyers. You can hear the regular season finale immediately following the Pittsburgh Pirates game on WISR 680 AM. Face-off is set for 3 P.M. The Penguins have already clinched a spot in the playoffs while Philadelphia is one point behind the Boston Bruins for the 8th and final playoff spot with only one game remaining.
NASCAR is back in action tonight as the sprint cup series is at the Texas Motor Speedway. Winning the pole of tonight’s race was Carl Edwards while defending champ of Texas Jimmie Johnson starts 11th. You can hear the coverage of the race on 1050 WBUT AM starting at 6:30 P.M. with the green flag set to drop around 7:30.
