Administrators in the South Butler County School District are continuing to take precautions against mold.
The results of a district-wide test of the air quality came back on Thursday. On Friday, Superintendent Dr. David Foley wrote a letter to parents explaining the results.
Of the 48 locations tested, 45 of them came back with acceptable air quality levels.
“However, in three locations (the Large Group Instruction room in the high school- which is rarely utilized-, room 141 at the middle school and room 115 at the intermediate elementary school), air levels of mold most-commonly associated with allergies were somewhat elevated,” Foley wrote in the letter.
Foley said the mold found was not hazardous “black mold,” but rather mold that could impact students and staff who are prone to allergies.
Students and staff who use the affected classrooms were moved to other available rooms. The rooms were sanitized and dehumidifiers continue to run.
A representative from the company that performed the air quality tests will be in attendance at the South Butler County School Board meeting on Wednesday to explain the results. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
