Even though the number of motorists traveling on local roads has decreased due to coronavirus-related stay-at-home orders, the public is asked to take special care during a busy time for farmers.
Rural Roads Safety Week continues through Saturday and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau would like those making necessary trips to slow down around farm equipment and give farmers plenty of space.
Farmers have been starting to transport large pieces of slow-moving farm equipment for spring planting season. Although moving this equipment on the road is legal, everyone sharing the road needs to pay close attention in order to prevent accidents.
In 2018, there were 94 crashes on rural Pennsylvania roads involving farm equipment, resulting in eight fatalities.
