The Slippery Rock University football team improved to 2-0 on Saturday after a close 36-28 victory over host West Chester in a rematch of last year’s PSAC Championship Game.
Leading the Rock offensively were quarterback Don King III who threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Shamar Greene who ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the Rock was lead by linebacker Anthony Zappone who finished with 12 tackles and one sack, linebacker and Butler High graduate Bob Vernick who had ten tackles and one interception, and defensive end Marcus Martin who had eight tackles and two sacks.
With their performances on Saturday, Shamar Greene and Marcus Martin both broke records in their respective positions. Shamar Greene broke the school record for career rushing yards (he currently has 4,033, with the former record at 3,932), and Marcus Martin broke the conference record for career sacks (he is currently at 35, breaking the former record of 33.5).
