The Colorado Rockies took their three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates after a 4-3 victory Wednesday afternoon. An error by Pirates pitcher Rich Hill led to a three-run inning for Colorado in the fourth inning. Andrew McCutchen went three-for-three and hit his seventh home run of the year.
The Pirates are off today and begin a three-game series in Baltimore Friday night.
The month of May has been rough for the Bucs. They are 1-8 this month, and have been outscored 51-13. The Pirates had gone 20-9 prior to that, good for the second-best record in baseball.
Despite the May slump, the Pirates remain a half-game in front of Milwaukee in the National League Central. The Brewers are 2-8 over their last 10 games. The Chicago Cubs are three games behind, and had gone 3-7 in the same span.
