A long discussed project to build a restaurant in Butler Township is finally moving forward with the added plan to demolish and rebuild another restaurant right beside it.
The Butler Township Planning Commission unanimously recommended conditional approval of plans for a Taco Bell restaurant at the intersection of Pittsburgh Road (Route 8 South) and Litman Road.
A lease of Greater Butler Mart property will allow for construction of a nearly 2,500-square foot Taco Bell where a gas station was formerly located. Environmental cleanup has been taking place at that site for three years with increased green-space and improved stormwater.
Representatives of the McDonalds restaurant next door also presented plans to construct a new, slightly larger store in nearly the same spot but with more green space as well as an improved drive thru and traffic flow. These plans also received approval from the Commission.
The next step for these projects is to receive approval from the Butler Township Commissioners later this month. Work on both sites is expected to begin in July with completion expected four to nine months after that.
