Butler County is attempting to better recognize the volunteers who assist with fires, accidents and medical emergencies each and every day by developing a new full-circle program called REV.
REV stands for Recognition of Excellence in our Volunteers. The county is reaching out to businesses who will agree to offer some sort of discount or service to first responders and emergency services volunteers.
“Just saying ‘thank you’ sometimes isn’t enough,” Amy Marree, emergency management planner for the Butler County Emergency Services Department, said. “I know we say it a lot, but I wanted something to have a little more meaning to it.”
The volunteers will apply and be issued a REV ID card that they can show to local companies.
Marree says the program not only benefits the volunteers, but also is a way to recognize businesses who want to give back.
“Any little way to say thank you is great,” she said.
Businesses can offer anything from a free cup of coffee, to 10 percent off a good or service. And, it doesn’t have to only be a food establishment. A local veterinarian and a yoga studio have already signed off to participate.
Participating businesses in the program are listed online on the county’s emergency services website.
Butler County is one of only a handful of other counties to do something similar to this across the state.
