Governor Tom Wolf has named this week Wildfire Prevention Week in Pennsylvania.
While most people think of fire season occurring during the height of summer, March through May is the time of year when Pennsylvania is most vulnerable.
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources spokesman Terry Brady says dry conditions and increased outdoor activity combine to increase the fire threat.
Most fires are caused by human factors, including burning trash, campfires and smoking.
Those taking to the outdoors this spring are reminded that open fires are prohibited on state forest land now through May 25th.
