As we leave the month of March, the effort to continue Problem Gambling Awareness Month continues.
In a recent report released from the department, there was an increase in the number of people reaching out for help with a gambling addition in 2015. That number stands at around 1,700 people, which is a couple of hundred more than the previous year. The department says an estimated 280,000 residents in the state have a gambling problem.
Jason Snyder, Policy and Communications Director for the PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, says some people may not reach out because they don’t have the information of where to go or that help is even available.
Snyder also says the consequences of a gambling addiction can include job loss, financial hardship, relationship problems and criminal activity.
