A local lawmaker is asking President Trump to get involved with a dispute between Pennsylvania and a federal law.
Republican Representative Daryl Metcalfe of the 12th District joined 115 other state lawmakers in sending a letter to the new President concerning the Federal REAL ID Act.
Metcalfe and other state lawmakers rejected participation in this federal mandate last year due to concerns that it violates states rights as well has a high cost, places a burden on citizens, and infringes on privacy, according to Rep. Metcalfe.
The new US Department of Homeland Security date when Pennsylvania drivers licenses will no longer be accepted as proof of identification at federal facilities is June 6, 2017. The deadline for being able to use Pennsylvania drivers licenses to board domestic commercial flights is January 22, 2018.
