Local U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly has voiced his opinion about the process of nominating the next justice of the Supreme Court.
“Constitutionally, the President has every right in the world to nominate anybody he wants but on the other side, the Senate also has a responsibility and authority under the constitution to vet this person,” Rep. Kelly said Friday during WISR’s It’s Your Turn talk show.
Kelly met former justice Antonin Scalia before he passed earlier this month. The idea of a president nominating and the Senate confirming the next member of the court during an election year has raised some controversy.
Kelly announced last week he will be running for a fourth term as Representative of the 3rd District of Pennsylvania.
