Congressman Mike Kelly is joining a group of lawmakers urging a slowdown to the push for electric vehicles.
The letter was sent to the Biden Administration asking to withdraw from an Environmental Protection Agency proposal to require a majority of light-duty and medium-duty vehicles produced to be electric vehicles.
The program is called the “Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles.” Specifically, it would require 67% of new light-duty vehicles and 46% of medium-duty vehicles to be electric by 2032.
“With this proposed rule, the Biden administration is putting the cart before the horse — they are mandating sweeping EV regulations before EVs are truly market-ready and affordable for most Americans,” Kelly said.
Kelly also says he doesn’t believe the government should be mandating their use.
