U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, of Butler, wants to rename the Butler Post Office after a local Civil War hero.
Kelly’s bill to designate the facility as the “Andrew Gomer Williams Post Office Building” was put forward in the U.S. House Thursday with the support of all 17 members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation.
In addition to serving in the Civil War, Williams was also a State Representative, State Senator, and local lawyer. A speech about Williams made by local historian Bill May was entered into the Congressional record last year.
The Butler Post Office is located on South Main Street in Butler.
