A local lawmaker is working to advance legislation that he believes would improve school safety in Pennsylvania.
Republican State Representative Aaron Bernstine has introduced a companion bill to one introduced in the state Senate by Republican Gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano that would end Pennsylvania’s gun-free school zones.
Bernstine’s House Bill 2771 would allow school employees who possess a valid PA concealed carry permit to be armed while on school property. It would also mandate a certificate achieved after completion of firearms and proficiency courses with a certified instructor.
28 states currently allow teachers or school staff to be armed while on school property. This bill will most likely first be considered by the House Education Committee.
