A relief center remains open in the City of Butler Thursday for residents needing assistance due to last night’s widespread flooding.
Dan Tobin, communications director for the Butler Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the center is now located inside the First English Lutheran Church on North Main Street across from Dunkin Donuts.
“We will be there as long as it takes,” Tobin told our newsroom. “We will definitely be there throughout the day on Thursday and we could be there tonight depending if people need shelter.”
Residents can visit the center for various reasons. If their basement was flooded and then need some cleanup supplies, they can visit the shelter and receive supplies. If their home is not livable due to flooding, they can come to the center for shelter.
When the rain initially hit the city last night around 10 p.m., the Red Cross opened a relief center inside the Butler City Fire Department.
Tobin says no one visited the center overnight but 10 people stopped by Thursday morning for breakfast.
Residents can also always call 211 to get assistance during a crisis situation or for everyday needs.
“At this stage of the game we’re still trying to access how much damage there is from last night,” Tobin said.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance for more rain and storms to hit Butler County Thursday afternoon and evening.
