Butler’s Relay For Life- the annual fundraiser that benefits the American Cancer Society- exceeded its goal by several thousand dollars this year.
Organizer Shelly Manning said the event had already raised over $55,500 before the start on Saturday, which was the goal, and ended up with $71,839 going towards the fight against cancer.
“I’m elated,” Manning said. “I think people are so generous because this disease is personal. Everybody knows somebody who has been affected.”
Manning said she will be back to organize the event next year and hopes the community will support the cause once again.
“I’m not quitting until we find a cure,” she said.
