With Thanksgiving just days away, officials are offering reminders for safe cooking in order to prevent fires.
The American Red Cross says that cooking is the leading cause of home fires and injuries.
Officials say one of the biggest ways to prevent fires are to stay in the kitchen when you’re frying, grilling, or broiling.
They also offer a couple more tips:
- Use a timer to remind yourself the stove or oven is on.
- Keep anything that can catch on fire away from the stove top.
- Avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves.
The Red Cross also urges everyone to have a smoke alarm near your kitchen and on every level of your house.
