This weekend, the American Red Cross will visit the Butler neighborhood that was hit hardest by flooding this summer to install free smoke alarms.
Volunteers will begin going door-to-door throughout the West End of the City of Butler at 9 a.m. Saturday to deliver free smoke alarms and educate the community on the importance of having a fire escape plan.
Red Cross West Central Pennsylvania Director Mary Rogers said the organization supported these residents during and after the July floods and now, as we enter fire season, the group wants to make sure people have the tools and resources they need to safely escape a home fire.
Officials say when a fire strikes, you have two minutes to get out.
