The American Red Cross says there is a critical need for blood donations.
Officials with the organization say that last month, there were about 20,000 fewer donations than needed to maintain the Red Cross national blood supply.
They cite the severe weather and high travel levels as reasons donations may have fallen. The Red Cross says it’s important that hospitals have the appropriate amount of blood during the summer months to handle critical patients.
A drive is taking place today at the Abie Abraham Butler VA from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. while two others are planned for Wednesday in Harmony and Slippery Rock. Donors will get an exclusive Tetris t-shirt while supplies last as well as have a chance to win two tickets to New York.
Those interested in participating can make an appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org.
