In preparation for the expected landfall of Hurricane Irma in Florida, the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Red Cross is looking for people to be shelter volunteers.
Over the next week, the Red Cross will host 13 boot camps throughout the chapter’s 28-county region to quickly train volunteers. There will be a boot camp in Butler County next week (at the Herman Volunteer Fire Department on Thurs, Sept 14). You must be 18 years old and be willing and able to accept a 2-3 week deployment if needed. The training is free but registration is required. Visit here.
Red Cross officials say there are still thousands of people staying in shelters in both Texas and Louisiana due to Hurricane Harvey and with Irma set to hit, more volunteers are needed to staff shelters in Florida.
