The American Red Cross is appealing to Pennsylvanians to donate blood.
Officials say summer is usually a slow time of year for blood donations, but- typically- donations increase following the Fourth of July.
But, Alana Maugher, spokesperson for the American Red Cross Blood Services, says they’re not seeing that happen this year.
“We have not seen the bounce back that we normally do,” she said. “We have less than five days of blood supply at area hospitals.”
If not enough blood is collected, hospitals and trauma centers could have to prioritize treatment.
