Rain– coupled with barely freezing temperatures– caused some slick conditions on the roadways and sidewalks early Tuesday. But it could be the incessant rain that leads to problems throughout the day and into tomorrow.
The majority of school districts in Butler County decided to err on the side of caution and delay school by two hours. The A-C Valley and Karns City school districts decided to close for today. The Mars and Seneca Valley districts had school as usual.
The icy conditions even caused Butler County Community College to push back the start time until 9:30 a.m. for its main campus and most outlying sites. BC3 @ Brockway is closed Tuesday. Slippery Rock University was also on a two-hour delay.

But now, the rain is the concern. A lot of rain is expected Tuesday– upwards of two inches by tonight, according to the National Weather Service. That prompted the NWS to issue a Flood Watch until early Wednesday for Butler and surrounding counties.
“A light glaze of ice will be possible on bridges, overpasses, and untreated pavement early Tuesday morning before surface temperatures rise to above freezing and freezing rain transitions fully to rain,” according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the NWS.
