It was a very busy few days for local first responders, as crews continued to respond to flooded roads, downed trees and power outages into Monday.
“Most of the calls centered around our typical storm calls- flooded basements, trees and wires down, roadway flooding. There were a couple of water rescues, mostly overnight Sunday into early Monday,” Director of the Butler County Emergency Services Steve Bicehouse said Monday morning.
The Butler County Water Rescue Team has been called to at least five different incidents beginning late Sunday night and continuing early Monday morning, including two different calls for people stranded inside their vehicles in flood waters on Route 38 in Summit Township.
Inflatable boats were used to rescue three people stranded inside their home in Jackson Township around midnight due to a flooded creek. Crews helped evacuate a patient about 7 a.m. Monday at a nursing home on Evergreen Mill Road in Jackson Township. The home had been cut off due to flooding.
The rain started Saturday and remained constant for the entire weekend. The National Weather Service attributed the precipitation to a cold front paired with the passing remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon.
“It’s been relatively quiet considering the amount of rain that we got,” Bicehouse said.
Several roads throughout the county remain blocked due to downed trees and flooding including Route 38 at the Hohn Farm Road intersection in Oakland Township, Hartmann Road between Route 528 in Forward Township and Seneca School Road in Jackson Township, and Route 268 beginning at Route 68 in Fairview Township.
Nearly 400 residents in Butler County are also still without power as of 3 p.m. Both West Penn Power and Central Electric Cooperative customers are affected including some in Forward, Center, Allegheny, Winfield, Venango, Donegal, and Slippery Rock Townships. Some of those outages could last into Tuesday morning.
