Gas prices in Western Pennsylvania increased by twelve cents in the last week and are now averaging $2.60 per gallon.
A large part of that jump is attributed to an increase in the state gasoline tax- which jumped eight cents a gallon beginning Jan. 1. That increase brought Pennsylvania’s state and federal gas tax to 76 cents a gallon, the highest in the nation.
According to AAA East Central, the average price for a gallon of unleaded, self-serve gasoline in Butler is $2.62.
