The transition of the former Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company office building in Butler City into a 62-unit senior housing development is continuing to move forward.
The WODA Group- out of Westerville, Ohio- plans to buy and rehab the Hansen Avenue building into units for residents 65 years old and older with low-to-moderate income. The project will be known as the Pullman Heights Senior Housing Apartment Project.
The Butler County commissioners gave their blessing to the project at Wednesday’s meeting.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” Chairwoman Leslie Osche said. “The building has long been vacant.”
This is a privately funded venture, which will not be tax exempt. But, the WODA Group may be able to take advantage of a loan from the county’s Act 137 funds. The commissioners would have to approve the release of those funds, which are earmarked for affordable housing projects, at a later date.
A representative from the WODA Group said the company hopes to rehab the building to its original 1920s aesthetic.
“We are excited to bring some meaningful development to a meaningful place,” the rep said. “This also provides people with limited assets with a good housing opportunity.”
